The Ukwuru Foundation, through its Ukwuru Science Initiative, is excited to announce a Health Promotion Event aimed at addressing key health concerns within the Festac community, Lagos. Scheduled for the 1st of March 2024, this event will run from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at a local church venue, offering free health education and screenings on some of the most pressing health issues facing the local population.

Over the past year, data collected by the Ukwuru Foundation has highlighted a significant prevalence of two key illnesses: plasmodiasis (malaria) and sepsis. In light of this concerning trend, this health promotion event has been specifically designed to focus on reducing the incidence of these illnesses through a combination of education on preventive practices, diagnostic testing, treatment options, and referrals to local healthcare services.

Attendees will receive crucial information on how to prevent plasmodiasis, including strategies such as proper use of mosquito nets, environmental management to reduce mosquito breeding, and understanding symptoms for early detection. Furthermore, education on sepsis will be offered, helping individuals recognize early signs of infection and understand when to seek urgent medical care to prevent severe complications. Information on the importance of hygiene, proper wound care, and early treatment of infections will also be emphasized.

In addition to targeting these infectious diseases, the event will address the growing need to combat lifestyle-related illnesses within the community. As such, attendees will have the opportunity to undergo free testing for blood sugar levels (to screen for diabetes) and blood pressure checks (for hypertension). These screenings are designed to promote early detection and preventive health behaviors, particularly in the face of rising incidences of these conditions globally and locally.

To enhance the reach and impact of this health promotion, qualified healthcare professionals will be on-site to provide consultations, explain the results of the diagnostic tests, and offer advice on next steps, such as treatment options or referrals to local clinics or hospitals. Information will be provided on how attendees can access affordable or free healthcare services if further medical attention is required.

The event aims to foster a supportive and welcoming atmosphere, where members of the Festac community can take proactive steps toward improving their health and well-being. Families, individuals, and children are all encouraged to attend, as the Ukwuru Foundation seeks to equip the community with the knowledge and tools to live healthier lives.

Organized with the support of local community leaders, churches, and health professionals, this event is a key step in building a healthier Festac. With a focus on education, prevention, and early diagnosis, the Ukwuru Foundation hopes to reduce the burden of infectious diseases and lifestyle illnesses, improving the overall quality of life for the local population.

The event is free and open to all members of the community. Don't miss this opportunity to learn more about protecting your health and the health of your family. Together, we can work toward a healthier, stronger Festac!
